Common frustrations for painting company owners
Typical problems we look for in a Growth Diagnosis. These are examples, not client quotes.
- We pay for leads, and the same homeowner got quotes from three other painters.
- Half our estimates never get a yes or a no. They just go quiet.
- Spring and summer are packed with exterior work. Then the calendar empties.
- We get price shoppers, but not enough full repaints and cabinet jobs.
If one of these sounds like your company, the problem is usually not the ads alone. It is what happens between the ad and the signed job.
Why painting needs its own plan
Why does painting contractor marketing need its own plan?
Painting jobs differ a lot in size and timing. An exterior repaint, a cabinet job and a single bedroom are different leads, the weather decides when exterior work can happen, and homeowners usually compare several estimates. A good plan follows all three.
- Different jobs, different ads. Exterior repaints, interior repaints, cabinet painting and deck or fence staining each get their own ads and form questions, so your team sees the bigger jobs first.
- Weather sets the season. The Bureau of Labor Statistics notes that outdoor painting work may be seasonal. Paint makers list minimum application temperatures for each exterior product, so exterior ads should follow your local weather, and interior and cabinet work can fill the colder months.
- Homeowners compare estimates. Homeowners are often advised to get at least three quotes. A fast reply and a clear written estimate help you stay in the running.
- Older homes need lead-safe work. The EPA requires firms paid to disturb paint in homes built before 1978 to be lead-safe certified (it exempts some small jobs), and it recommends that homeowners hire a lead-safe contractor. If you are certified, your ads should say so.

Know your lead sources
Where do painting leads come from, and which do you own?
Painting leads come from five main places, and only some of them are yours alone. Good marketing for painters builds the sources you own and uses the others with care.
| Source | Shared or yours? | How you pay | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Your Google Search ads | Yours alone | Per click, paid to Google | Homeowners searching for a painter now | Wasted clicks without tracking |
| Google Local Services Ads | Sent to you, homeowner may call others too | Per valid lead, paid to Google | Calls from people nearby, where the category is open | Not open in every area |
| Facebook and Instagram ads | Yours alone | Per view or click, paid to Meta | Showing before-and-after work to homeowners near you | Needs real job photos and fast follow-up |
| Lead marketplaces | Often shared with other painters | Per lead or quote, set by the site | Filling gaps in a slow month | Price shopping and paying for leads that never hire |
| Referrals and yard signs | Yours alone | Your time and materials | Trust from neighbors and past customers | Hard to grow fast on their own |
Whatever the source, compare them by cost per signed job, not cost per lead.
Try it with your numbers
What does a signed painting job really cost you?
Cost per lead looks good on a report. Cost per signed job is what pays the bills. Put in last month's numbers and see the difference. Nothing is saved or sent. How to work out cost per signed job

What we do for you
What does marketing for a painting company include?
Marketing for a painting company covers the whole path from search to signed job: ads that reach homeowners in your service area, before-and-after proof that wins their trust, a fast first reply, and tracking that shows which ads led to signed work. Here is each part and what it does for a painting company.
- Google Search ads. Reach homeowners who search "house painters near me" or "cabinet painting" right now, only in the areas you serve. Exterior, interior and cabinet work get their own ads. Read Google Ads for contractors. More about Google ads
- Google Local Services Ads. Google lists painters as a category, where it is open in your area. These pay-per-lead ads show the Google Verified badge after Google's checks. We help you decide if they fit next to your other ads.
- Facebook and Instagram ads. Reach homeowners near you before they search, with before-and-after photos and short videos of your real jobs, and a simple form. Read Facebook ads for contractors. More about Meta ads
- Ad videos and images. We edit your own job photos and clips into ready-to-run ads, or make professional ad visuals. We never show made-up people as your crew or your customers. More about ad videos
- Landing page. One page, one offer and one short form that asks what a painting estimate needs: interior or exterior, how many rooms or how big the house is, and whether the home was built before 1978. More about landing pages
- Tracking. From the first click to the signed job, so you see cost per signed job by ad and campaign. Included with our services. More about tracking
- Instant replies, CRM and playbook. On Growth System and Growth Partner plans, every new lead gets an automatic reply within seconds (text messages only with the homeowner's consent). Your team gets a CRM with follow-up guidance, including reminders for estimates that went quiet, and a sales playbook. More about instant replies
Trust wins painting jobs
Which trust signals help a painting company win the job?
Homeowners let painters into their home for days, so trust decides a lot. Show what your company really has: EPA lead-safe certification if you work on older homes, proof of insurance, a clear written estimate, real before-and-after photos of your own jobs, and your Google reviews. We only show credentials your company really has.
Reviews matter too. In BrightLocal's 2026 survey of US consumers, 97% said they read reviews for local businesses, and 47% said they would not use a business with fewer than 20 reviews. See our guide to getting more Google reviews the right way.

Where painting jobs leak
Why do painting estimates go quiet, and what helps?
Many painting estimates go quiet when follow-up slips. The homeowner may still be comparing quotes or waiting for the right season, and a polite check-in keeps you in the running. A simple follow-up plan helps: a thank-you after the estimate, a check-in a few days later, and a reminder before the season you quoted for.
We set up those reminders in the CRM and give your team short scripts. Your team makes the calls and closes the job; we never call your leads for you. Our guide on how fast to reply to a new lead covers the first step.
